The Labor Day Blog Fest

What is your favorite historical site?

Cynthia at Random Thoughts ran a Labor Day Blog Fest this year.

Here were the rules in a nutshell:

1) Follow this blog.

2) Spread the word.

3) Sign up.

4) And On Tuesday September 6th post on your blog the American Flag and your State Flag with five American Historical sites you have been to or wish to see.

For those not in the United States, they were asked to post their country flag and five American Historical sites they have visited or wish to visit.

Here are my historical sites:

NORAD deep in the heart of Cheyenne Mountain. The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) is a United States and Canada bi-national organization charged with the missions of aerospace warning and aerospace control for North America. Unfortunately, it no longer offers tours. It was built to withstand a direct hit from a nuclear bomb.

Air Force Academy - near Colorado Springs. The elite college that trains officer candidates for the United States Air Force.

Independence Hall in Philadelphia, PA - the building where the Declaration of Independence was signed.

American Police Hall of Fame in Miami, Florida - This is the first memorial ever built to honor police officers who were killed in the line of duty.

And beautiful Mount Rushmore in South Dakota.

I'm still trying to get the hang of blogging. I wanted to add images, but it kept screwing up the post. In the end, I was lucky to be able to post the flags!

So, what about you, do you have a favorite historical site -- or one you'd like to visit someday? And which site would you most like to showcase in a future book?

I've seen Rushmore and the Air Force Academy - both very impressive.

I live in COS, so I've been to the academy. I keep telling Hubby we need to visit the chapel. We've been to events there or taken hikes. NORAD would be interesting. I did this blog fest, too, but failed to sign up properly and posted on Labor Day. :) I didn't post the Colorado Flag either. After being in Texas, the Colorado flag looks like a copyright symbol. I'm sure it will grow on me.

My dad was an officer in the army, and he used to take us to the Air Force Academy when we were younger for their officer's Sunday brunch. Used to love seeing the cadets in formation and all the jets on display.

Been to Mt. Rushmore several times. Always a fun trip to the Black Hills.

I used to work in law enforcement too, so that museum you mentioned would interest me as well, if I was in the neighborhood.

Great places to visit! I had a hard time with pictures too. I found if I found something on the web I had to save it first, the up load it onto the blog.

Hi Alex, I live near the Air Force Academy. I love the planetarium there. Unfortunately, a lot of their programs closed after 9/11.

Hi Stacy, that's so funny! Our flag does look like a copyright symbol. No wonder I felt funny posting it. I grew up in COS. NORAD used to have tours, but they got closed off years ago. I stayed with a friend of mine at a lodge near there. We would hike along the property... right up to the fence line... and watch the comings and goings there. Later, I was friends with a man who worked there... he told me some stories about UFO's they'd tracked.

Hi L.G., cool that your dad was an officer in the Army, and that you used to do Sunday brunch at the AFA. We used to go to graduation ceremonies. And, where I live, I get a great view of the plane shows. They turn around over my neighborhood. One man I dated took me to quite a few of the boxing matches out there... and some martial arts matches as well. And I've seen so many plays and concerts there that I've lost count. It's a great place.

How neat that you also worked in law enforcement. My family has turned into a cop family. I guess I started it.

Hi Cynthia, thanks for the blog fest. It was fun. I was able to get the pictures to my blog... but once I got them there, they went everywhere except where I wanted them too! I kept dragging them around, but they would just screw up something else. I finally gave up. It was obvious they'd beaten me!

I'm too late to catch up with this blogfest, but it looks like fun.

Good to see you!
